The history of the 'Mariniere': A military ruling in 1858 introduced it as the official wardrobe of quartermasters and sailors in the French Navy with its particular characteristics: 21 white stripes of specific measurements and spacing. The 20th century brought this nautical motif into the mainstream, becoming a fashion must-have for creatives and intellectuals (think Coco Chanel, Pablo Picasso). Since then, it has become a symbol of vintage French fashion – universal and timeless.
